Meet Icy Liu
We are extremely privileged to be able to introduce the wines of Icy Liu to the Newcomer portfolio. Today, Icy is not an unfamiliar name to the world of Burgundy, having worked for the well respected importer, Becky Wassermann, over the past years.
Originally from Taiwan, Icy moved to New York to study Engineering at Columbia in New York, where she discovered her love for wine. This led her to eventually moving to Burgundy to enrol in the Burgundy School of Business, where she graduated with a Wine MBA with Distinction, before going onto the University of Burgundy, where she obtained an Oenology Diploma. While in Burgundy, she connected with Tomoko of Chanterêves, along with also other growers like Bastian Wolber, Catharina Sadde and David Croix, to name but a few. When Bastian offered to share some organic old-vine Gamay he'd obtained from another grower with Icy, she made the decision to expand her CV even further to include making her own wine.
Icy is only at the start of her (winemaking) journey, but already her first vintage shows the focus and attention she has accumulated in her previous life working in wine. We are excited to share 'La Caravane Rosé' and 'Apinost Rouge' – both coming from a clay/limestone/granite conglomerate parcel in the village of Saint-Germain-Nuelles. Quantities are microscopic, but show a real promise to the next vintages ahead As of 2023, Icy will also vinify whites and more reds along the (Haute) Côte d'Or.
