We’re on the lookout for a full-time team member to join our Dalston bar & shop.
As a Bar & Shop Assistant, you’ll be at the heart of what we do: pouring wines, leading tastings, hosting events, and growing your knowledge of the Newcomer Wines portfolio and our growers.
The role will average between 40-45 hours per week with an hourly wage up to £18ph inc service.
This is a fantastic opportunity to connect with our community, work closely with a passionate team, and dive deeper into the world of low-intervention wine.

About Newcomer Wines:
Our Wine Bar, Shop & Garden is the heartbeat of Newcomer Wines — a space to showcase the wines we love and the 80+ growers across 9 countries we believe in. Back in 2016 little would we know that this place would become our spiritual home — a place where we had the pleasure to host countless winemaker parties — chefs from all around the world — and an amazing community of wine lovers from just about anywhere in the world. Over the years Newcomer Wines Dalston also received back-to-back accolades for its extensive wine list and for its incredible team.
Newcomer Wines has been at the forefront of representing some of the most forward-thinking growers in the ‘New’ Old World today. Starting from a passion project in 2014, we have been gradually expanding our Austrian expertise to (re)connect long forgotten, however culturally or historically interconnected regions.Whether borrowing from, or rewriting tradition, our growers share a common purpose — to make wines that are an honest reflection of the place and the people that make them, leaving as little imprint on the natural world — and the wines themselves — as they go.
From Monday to Saturday we operate as a Wine Bar, Shop & Garden have remained a firm favourite of many locals and visitors alike in and around Dalston and the east London scene.Writing our wine list each week from scratch, expect to see wines poured from the latest talents joining the Newcomer Wines portfolio, delicious back vintages from veterans and industry icons as well as an eclectic mix of wines we source from importer friends within the UK.
In the warmer months our garden transforms into a secret green oasis allowing you to forget the concrete jungle for a few moments — combine that with a rare back vintage from our cellar and you are in for a treat.
Who are we looking for?
Our search has begun to find and hire a new full-time team member for our bar & shop team. The individual we are looking for will ideally have experience in a similar hospitality and/or retail-related role. This is the perfect position for someone looking to be part of a young dynamic team that encourages a pro-active and outside-of-the-box working environment.
Everyday responsibilities
Opening and closing procedures.
Day to day shop, bar and event service.
Hosting wine tastings.
Stock control - keeping the shelves full, looking presentable and helping maintain the cellar inventory.
Building customer relationships.
Requirements
Clear understanding of wine — Styles, production methods, approach to tasting, regions and countries, etc.
Strong written and spoken communication skills
Organisational skills and willingness to learn on the job.
Identifying one’s personality with the persona of a host, encouraging and welcoming a people centric environment.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment — juggling more than one task at a time.
An approach to getting things done quickly and efficiently whilst retaining a high standard — an eye for detail is key.
Ability to work independently and within a team.
Knowledge of additional languages, in particular French, German and Italian are favourable but not essential.
