An elegant and pure wine with fresh raspberries and wild blackcurrants, a sprinkling of white pepper and a saline mineral finish. This is Blaufränkisch in its most honest and transparent form, only achievable when tended with care. It's like the grape variety is looking at itself in the mirror.
The wine symbolises the coming together of two families (Wachter and Wiesler) in 1992. As homage to this, this is Blaufränkisch from each family's vineyards in Deutsch-Schützen and Eisenberg, and the vines are between 30 and 50 years old.
The wine fermented naturally with around 20-30% whole bunch inclusion. It was aged for 13 months in large old wooden barrels and foudres. The wine was bottled unfined, unfiltered and with just a touch of sulphur.
